Tanzania 1 — A weekend of celebrations

I was so happy to see the familiar face of the Action 5-friend Justus in the crowd in Bukoba and put an end to the aggressive offers from several taxi drivers. From then on I was in a constant flow of events attending a bunch of official occasions with him, who has recently taken a political office next to his work and his activities for Action 5, and reminds me of my good friend Johannes not only in that he seems to be able to do with very little sleep.

The first was the anniversary of a Catholic hospital in Kagondo, appropriately with a lot of church Honorables who held long speeches, and good choir music (with percussion).

Next up was a visit at my future workplace, Kagondo Secondary School, of which you will read shortly. Here is my friend delivering a speech to the assembled 250 students below the Tanzanian flag, and pretty much all the classrooms there are can be seen the background.

Another highlight was a well-off wedding ceremony. Not only in church was it hard to actually see the newlyweds past all the cameras and video staff. Again, the music troupes, but also the procession of all the guests were very impressive though.

The size and decoration of the party almost blew me away, featuring several projections of the life video footage. Some decorated dancers I think were the only relic of traditional ceremonies, and even though they did a pretty good job they could not change the general atmosphere much.

Pictures of my actual living environment are coming soon, now that I have something like an everyday life, which I am very happy about. And happy with, Justus and his family are amazing hosts, and the people around friendly and interested. Even though, the English skills…
